RESERVOIR SUPPORTS THE RECORDING ACADEMY’S ‘IN MY DISTRICT’ CAMPAIGN
Date:
The Recording Academy held its third annual In My District campaign this week, encouraging artists and music professionals to attend meetings at the offices of local Congressional officials in an effort to support music-related legislation.
On Wednesday, over 2,000 attendees, including Reservoir SVP of A&R and Catalog Development Faith Newman, visited 315 Congressional offices around the country to make their voices heard. Newman joined Congressman Jerry Nadler, who represents New York’s 10th District, to discuss a variety of bills. Initiatives included The Fair Play Fair Pay Act (H.R. 1733), which aims to ensure that all music creators receive fair market value for their work from all music services; The Allocation for Music Producers Act (H.R. 1457), which would allow producers and engineers to get direct payment of their digital royalties; and Reform the Consent Decrees for Songwriters & Co-sponsor the Songwriter Equity Act (H.R. 1283), which seeks to overturn the decades-old consent decrees that restrict how performing rights societies license their work.
Reservoir is no stranger to advocating for songwriters’ rights; earlier this year, Reservoir President and National Music Publisher’s Association board member Golnar Khosrowshahi partnered with the NMPA and world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma to lobby for the cause on Capitol Hill for World Intellectual Property Day.
