BEYONCE PERFORMS “BABY BOY” AT SUPERBOWL HALFTIME SHOW
Date:
Super Bowl XLVII will be remembered for many things–its signature pull-out-all-the-stops commercial lineup, an unexpected power outage that left fans and players in the dark for over half an hour. Perhaps most memorably, though, Super Bowl XLVII will be remembered as the game Beyonce won.
Anticipation for the pop/R&B singer’s halftime show has been high since her performance announcement via face paint late last year (see below). Her lineup generated even more buzz after her highly visible–and highly controversial–lip-synched performance of U.S. national anthem “The Star Spangled Banner” at President Barack Obama’s second term inauguration last month.
While the lip-synching scandal may have dampened the singer’s pristine image slightly in the past few weeks, it seems unlikely that anyone will still be doubting her chops after yesterday’s performance, which included her trademark energetic choreography, a pyrotechnic guitar solo, an impromptu Destiny’s Child reunion, and a slew of her signature smash singles, including the 2003 Reservoir catalog hit “Baby Boy” produced by Scott Storch.
