NITIN SAWHNEY RELEASES NEW COLLABORATIVE ALBUM ‘PROJECT MAMA EARTH’
Date:
Nitin Sawhney released a new collaborative album, titled Project Mama Earth, today alongside fellow world-reknowned musicians Joss Stone, Jonathan Joseph, Étienne M’Bapp?, and Jonathan Shorten, today via Mascot Records. The album draws attention to the sounds of the world, specifically Africa, by combining elements of traditional African music and Western chords of Soul/R&B.
Written and recorded in 10 days, the six-track project, also includes an interlude between each song. “It was all very spontaneous,” remembers Sawhney, of the collaborative process. “The sessions were all about making something in a short space of time, creating a vibe, listening to each other, coming up with ideas, being creative. Every time you work with great players, it’s always a learning curve, no matter how long you’ve been playing yourself. These guys are superheroes, really, on their instruments. It was also trying to get into the swing of those rhythms and making sure that all the music reflected that, as opposed to just drums.”
Most recently, Nitin Sawhney scored Andy Serkis’ directional debut film, Breathe, which released last month, as well as the upcoming Warner Bros. feature film, The Jungle Book: Origins. The world-renowned composer, producer, and recording artist was also recognized with a prestigious Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award this past May, for his prized collection work.
