VANCE JOY RELEASES FIRST NEW MUSIC SINCE 2014, “LAY IT ON ME” CO-WRITTEN BY DAVE BASSETT
Date:
Australian indie-pop singer Vance Joy released the lead single, “Lay It On Me,” off of his forthcoming sophomore album on Thursday. Co-written with Reservoir songwriter Dave Bassett, the cut features the soulful vocals, acoustic guitar melodies, an uptempo rhythm and steady drum beats. Through the lyrics, the 29-year-old singer expresses his insecurities in taking a step towards a deeper relationship, belting “Everything starts at your skin, so new / Your love’s always finding me out / Who am I kidding? / If all my defences come down, oh baby / Will you lay it all on me now?”
Speaking on his inspirations for the song, Joy told Billboard that “I had this guitar riff I had been playing for ages but had never found a home for. When it was glued together with a lyric I had in my phone, ‘everything starts at your skin,’ the song started to make sense.”
The singer also dropped an accompanying music video which features Angela Sarafyan of Westworld. Watch here.
