UPDATED: SIGUR ROS IN THE U.S. & CANADA WITH FOR A MINOR REFLECTION’S KJARTAN HOLM
Date:
As announced last summer, popular Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Ros are touring the world with For A Minor Reflection’s Kjartan Holm in tow. The younger brother of Sigur Ros bassist Goggi Holm, Kjartan will replace Sigur Ros multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson over the course of Sveinsson’s hiatus.
The North American leg of the tour includes a gig tonight at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, projected to be the “most expansive Sigur Rós live experience yet.” After tonight, the band goes on to criss-cross Canada and the U.S. before jetting off to wow crowds in Asia and Europe.
UPDATE 3/26/13: The morning following the show, reviews are praising Sigur Ros’ nimble ability to alternate between “soft, sleep-worthy beauty, and then come crashing with raw power that stuns you like a wave,” noting the impressive impact of the numerous live instruments that contributed to the concert experience, including “perfectly in sync percussionists,” “drums like a death march,” “guitars lash[ing] against lumbering mallets,” and “chest-caving bass lines.”
