RESERVOIR WINS & PERFORMANCES AT THE BET AWARDS
Date:
Last night saw the broadcast of the twelfth annual BET Awards, honoring the artists, songs, videos, actors, athletes, and personalities who contribute to the station’s namesake cause, black entertainment.
Reservoir writers and content were all over the nominations, with “Enough Said” rapper Drake earning twelve nods and recent Songwriter of the Year honoree 2 Chainz bringing in eight, including Best Male Hip-Hop Artist and Best Collaboration for “No Lie” and “F**kin’ Problems.” Justin Timberlake, Chris Brown, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, and Rihanna rounded out Reservoir’s nominations.
Ultimately, the gentlemen fared well at the Awards, with A$AP Rocky, Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar winning Best Collaboration for “F**kin’ Problems”, and Lamar also winning Best New Artist and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. Drake’s video for single “Started From the Bottom” was named Video of the Year and the Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award winner, and Macklemore, of the recent “Gold Rush” collaboration, won Best Group with Ryan Lewis.
The ladies weren’t far behind, with Nicki Minaj snagging the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist slot and Rihanna taking Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, a category that seems made just for the superstar.
Entertainers including Wiz Khalifa, Eve, Pharell, Brandy, French Montana, Ne-Yo, Lil Mama, and Aaliyah cover artist Sevyn Streeter were also in attendance. Even more–2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Chris Brown put on show-stopping performances.
