RESERVOIR ANNOUNCES PUBLISHING DEAL WITH FEMALE-LED DISCO-SOUL BAND SAY SHE SHE
Date:
Reservoir Media, Inc. (NASDAQ: RSVR), an award-winning independent music company, today announced a global publishing deal with Nya Gazelle Brown, Sabrina Cunningham, and Piya Malik, who together comprise Brooklyn-based band Say She She. The deal includes each member of the band’s catalog, as well as future works.
Say She She, whose name pays homage to Nile Rodgers and Chic’s 1978 hit “Le Freak,” is led by Brown, Cunningham, and Malik, accompanied by members of the cult funk band Orgone. All three classically trained, Say She She have crafted their own “discodelic soul” sound, combining elements of disco, soul, funk, pop, and more. The group’s debut album, Prism, which was released in 2022, was dubbed a “boundary-busting” album by The Guardian in their five-star review. The album’s singles gained additional recognition on lists by NPR and The LA Times. Since then, Say She She’s storytelling, funky grooves, and dreamy harmonies have garnered them a growing fanbase across the globe.
In November 2023, Say She She was featured on CBS’s Mornings ahead of their second album, Silver, which earned the top spot on the “Best Albums of 2023” list by the LA-based tastemaker radio station KCRW. In support of Silver, the band toured across Europe and the U.S., performing at iconic venues like the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and the Roundhouse in London, as well as festivals including Glastonbury, Austin City Limits, and Pickathon. Say She She recently made their first on-air TV appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing “Disco Life” off their third album Cut & Rewind, released this past October. Cut & Rewind was praised by The New Yorker as a “bona-fide disco album that feels urgently of the moment.” Say She She has since kicked off an international tour in support of the album through 2026.
On the deal with Reservoir, Say She She commented, “We’re thrilled to share that we’ve officially joined the Reservoir family and are proud to call them our publishers alongside such a prestigious roster of writers! From day one, the team felt perfectly aligned (and in sync 😉) with us, and we’re excited to partner with people who truly share our creative vision.”
Reservoir Vice President of Creative James Cheney added, “From the first time I heard ‘Blow my Mind’ back in 2022, I was an instant fan. When I realized I had the chance to work with Nya, Sabrina and Piya, I jumped at the opportunity. They blend powerful vocals, sophisticated songwriting, and a live show that keeps the dance floor full. They are on the cusp of great things, and I’m thrilled that they’ve decided to join the Reservoir family.”
