Where do you listen to music most?
On my commute, and at home when I’m straightening up or getting ready to go out. I will be listening while I’m working out when I get back in the gym. 🙂
Describe the moment you realized you were destined for the music business.
I was fourteen years old at The Cars’ “Candy-O” concert in Philly. I looked around at the 20,000 people around me and decided I didn’t want to be just another face in the crowd…I wanted to be someone to make these things happen. By sixteen, I was interning for the biggest concert promoter in Philadelphia.
If you had to get a lyric tattooed on your body, what would it be?
Well, it’s not a lyric, but I have “Wild & Peaceful” tattooed on my arm. It’s the name of Teena Marie’s first album and has multiple meanings for me. Motown didn’t have her picture on that album because they didn’t want people to know she was white. But she had so much soul, her fans didn’t care about her race. Growing up a white girl so immersed in R&B music and black culture, her story was an inspiration to me. Plus, she got to hang out with Rick James. 🙂
The title also describes my personality, which can be outgoing and silly but also quiet and introspective.
What’s your favorite Reservoir catalog song?
“Eight Miles High” by The Byrds. When I was about three or four I remember my Dad playing “The Best of the Byrds” on our reel-to-reel player, which was very high tech for the time. There was always music playing in our house. Honorable mentions to Fat Joe’s “Lean Back”, “La La Means I Love You” by The Delfonics, and “Never Too Late” by The Nat Turner Rebellion, both from our Philly Groove catalog. I spent two years trying to close that deal and I can’t wait until we introduce it to the world.
