Reservoir writer, producer, and recording artist Nitin Sawhney has composed original music for a choreographed performance at the UK’s premier dance house, London’s Sadler’s Wells, where Sawhney has been an associate artist since 2010. The program, entitled “No Body”, is a series of multimedia installations constructed throughout the building that call upon choreography of light, imagery, and sound. It is being described as a dance showminus the dancers.
This new genre of performance was an opportunity to communicate what the theatre means to Sawhney. As he told The Guardian, “I had the idea of an installation that would explore the history of the building – all the performers who’ve left their mark on the stage, all the heightened emotion that’s been contained here, and is still imprinted on the walls.” The audience listens to Sawhney’s compositions via headphones as they walk through the installation.
“No Body” runs from June 7-12. Tickets are available here.
