“MERCY” WINS, 2 CHAINZ PERFORMS AT THE 2012 SOUL TRAIN AWARDS
Date:
“Mercy,” the haunting, heavy collaborative hip-hop track featuring Kanye West, Big Sean, Pusha T, and Reservoir songwriter 2 Chainz, is officially the Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year, at least as far as the Soul Train set is concerned.
BET and Centric presented this year’s installment of the Soul Train Awards in a ceremony that aired Sunday night, where “Mercy” beat other contenders “No Lie”–another Reservoir catalog hit–by 2 Chainz and Drake, “Lotus Flower Bomb” by Wale and Miguel, “Daughters” by Nas, and “Leave You Alone” by Young Jeezy and Ne-Yo for the ‘Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year’ prize.
In addition to being included in the “Mercy” win, 2 Chainz performed his own set during the Awards, rapping a cleaned-up medley of Based On A T.R.U. Story tracks “Birthday Song,” ” I’m Different,” and “Ghetto Dreams” to an enraptured audience. Chainz closed his set with one of his signature catchphrases, “Truuuuuuu!” before re-appearing in the show’s finale with legendary songwriter and musician, Stevie Wonder.
