‘MAGIC MIKE’ AND ‘DOPE’ SOUNDTRACKS FEATURE RESERVOIR CUTS
Date:
This month the soundtracks for Summer box office main events Magic Mike XXL and Dope were released, both of which feature cuts from the Reservoir catalog.
Magic Mike XXL is the sequel to the 2012 hit, Magic Mike, about handyman-by-day, stripper-by-night Mike (Channing Tatum) who mentors a nineteen-year-old dancer he dubs the Kid (Alex Pettyfer). In XXL, out July 1, Mike has been retired from the stripping scene for three years but gets back into the swing of things when his friends, a crew named the Kings of Tampa, ask him to join them at a stripper convention in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Ginuwine’s hit song “Pony” is featured in XXL’s steamy trailer, which couldn’t be a more appropriate choice for the movie. The song’s strong synth beats and sensual melody provide the perfect background to Channing Tatum’s poppin’ and lockin’ skills.

Meanwhile, Dope, out June 19, tells the story of high school senior Malcolm, a straight-A star student living in a rough neighborhood in L.A. Everything changes for him when he and his two friends stumble upon an underground birthday party for drug dealer Dom that quickly turns sour, and has Malcom et al fleeing the scene with the drugs that Dom secretly hid in Malcom’s backpack.
Dope‘s trailer features soulful WatchTheDuck single “Poppin’ Off”. This Reservoir cut sets the tone for Malcom and friends’ misadventure, and highlights the almost comical difference between the invited guests and the accidental party crashers.
