FESTIVAL NODS FOR ‘KISMET DINER’
Date:
Kismet Diner, the Ridley Scott-produced film short commissioned by the ice cream confectioners at Cornetto, has been nominated for both LA Shorts Fest and Manhattan Short Festival, two annual, international nods to short films.
Kismet director Mark Nunnelly explains why former P&P Songs singer-songwriter Lotte Mullan added the perfect touch to the film with her music:
“We had a very limited budget for the music but, in a quintessentially ‘kismet’ moment, singer-songwriter Lotte Mullan turned up at the casting. She performed the improv stuff we’d asked everyone to do. Then I spotted that she’d brought a guitar. We asked her to sing for us and she sang “Valentine[‘s Song].” We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect song. Lotte gave us a CD with some additional material that became the other songs Ilinka performs in the diner.”
The LA Shorts Fest, which screened Kismet Diner on Tuesday, concludes this Thursday the 12th. Manhattan Short Festival runs from September 27-October 6.
