“DIAMONDS FROM SIERRA LEONE” TAPPED FOR AGIT8
Date:
U2 front man Bono, equally known for his musical creations and his humanitarian efforts, has started a new movement called agit8 in partnership with The One Campaign.
Agit8 gathers classic protest songs—some original, some covered by contemporary artists—to make a musical statement that will attempt to influence leaders at next week’s G-8 summit. One of the tracks included on the playlist of “songs that changed the world” is Kanye West’s “Diamonds From Sierra Leone,” which was produced in part by Reservoir’s own Devo Springsteen. The Grammy-winning civil rights track, off of Kanye’s sophomore album Late Registration, brings to light the troubles surrounding conflict diamonds in West Africa.
