Countdown to Superbowl LII: Songs We’re Hoping Justin Timberlake Performs at Halftime
Date:
Justin Timberlake is bringing sexy back to the Superbowl! Just last month the triple threat announced that he would grace the stage during the Halftime Show at 2018’s Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Having entertained the world for upwards of 25 years, Timberlake has an arsenal of greatest hits at the ready to choose from for the show—though details on the epic performance have been kept under wraps thus far. While we await any hints JT might drop, we’ve put together a wish list of songs we hope to hear on February 4th.
Justin Timberlake – “Sexy Back”
Will Justin be bringing “Sexy Back” on game night? Released on Timberlake’s second studio album FutureSex/LoveSounds, the #1 Billboard track with a memorable beat and unforgettable lyrics, recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Produced by Danja, it earned its fair share of awards, racking up a 2007 Grammy for Best Dance Track, People’s Choice Award for Best R&B track, an ASCAP POP Music Award and a 2007 VMA. JT’s performed the track at the 2006 MTV VMAs, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and 2013 VMAs as part of a medley of hits, so we know it’s primed and ready for the spotlight. “[We’re] ready” to get up and dance and “get [our] sexy on,” are you?
Madonna – “4 Minutes” feat. Justin Timberlake
JT might only have “4 minutes to save the world” but we’ll watch him perform this Danja produced pop hit all day! Featuring the legendary Madonna, this dynamic duo would take the show to the next level with fun choreography during the instrumental breaks and harmonies on the chorus! The 2008 track off of Madonna’s eleventh studio album, Hard Candy, was featured on Glee’s Madonna-inspired episode and reached number one in 21 countries around the world. Though the pair have performed the track live on tour, they’ve never taken the stage together at a nationally-televised event! “Time is waiting…tick tock tick tock tick tock.”
Justin Timberlake – “Cry Me a River”
November 5th marketing the fifteenth anniversary of Timberlake’s debut solo album Justified. What better place to celebrate the marquee year, by performing the albums highly popular single “Cry Me A River” on the world’s biggest stage? The Scott Storch co-write picked up a Grammy in 2004 for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance and was a top 5 Billboard hit. We’re hoping to hear some sexy JT falsetto to slow things down for a bit!
Justin Timberlake – “Summer Love”
With a killer Super Bowl performance, JT will remind us that our love for him “can’t be summer love,” it’s love and obsession for life! The melody on this Danja cut is groovy, electronic and creative, perfect for getting down and dancing with friends at your Super Bowl parties! Lyrics are light-hearted and perfect for the tone of this relaxing Sunday night, as the Timberlake sings “gotta set the mood right / and let me make you feel alright” and “betcha we can have some fun, girl.” A Top 10 Billboard hit, the track was the fourth single on 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds to reach number one on mainstream US radio’s Top 40. JT reminds us of why we fell in love with this throwback track in the first place!
Timbaland – “Carry Out” feat. Justin Timberlake
JT would definitely light up the stage with this jazz and funk-inspired electronic hit! The cut, released in 2009, is the third single off of Timbaland’s third studio LP, Shock Value II and was co-written by Reservoir writer and producer, Jim Beanz. On the track, this epic pair of collaborators turn up the heat with intimate lyrics, “’cause is me, you, you, me, me, you all night.” However, we’re still eye-ing those nachos and guac on the other side of the living room with lines like “take my order cause your body like a / carry out.” With JT live in the comfort of your own home, you can have both!
Justin Timberlake – “What Goes Around…Comes Around”
You know this song for its addicting chorus and sensual sound, a perfect change of pace for a larger-than-life halftime show. Perhaps JT will even bring Scarlett Johansson out for a quick recreation of the Moulin-Rouge inspired 2006 music video! The Danja produced song was Timberlake’s third consecutive #1 from FutureSex/LoveSounds and stayed on the chart for 25 weeks. “What Goes Around…” would surely impress at the Super Bowl, allowing fans to reminisce about the ‘00s chart topper.
Justin Timberlake – “Until the End of Time” (feat. Beyoncé)
Is Queen Bey returning to the Super Bowl stage to recreate her 2013 and 2016 performances? Just imagine… the lights dim and Beyoncé appears through the smoke and lighting…and the two talented performers and long-time friends grace the stage to duet on one of FutureSex/LoveSounds’ finest Danja tunes. “Well, that would be enough / until the end of time.”
Justin Timberlake – “My Love” feat. T.I.
This Grammy-winning cut, produced by Danja, topped the US Billboard Hot 100, US Dance/Mix Show Airplay charts and Mainstream Top 40 just after its release. Timberlake performed “My Love” all over in 2006 and 2007 at the MTV VMAs, MTV European VMAs, Saturday Night Live, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and 49th Grammy Awards, but it’s been a decade since we saw him prove “[his] love”. It’s time to revive this classic rhythm.
