BLUE RAINCOAT MUSIC PUBLISHING/RESERVOIR ACQUIRES D:REAM PRINCIPAL SONGWRITER PETER CUNNAH’S CATALOGUE
Date:
Blue Raincoat Music Publishing in conjunction with Reservoir have acquired the catalogue of 90s dance/pop D:Ream founder, vocalist and principal songwriter Peter Cunnah. The deal includes their huge UK Number 1 hit ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ and Top 5 albums D:Ream on Volume 1 and World.
D:Ream rose to prominence in the 90s as the dance and clubbing scenes continued to dominate the mainstream pop world. Their best known song was initially an underground club hit and took a number of months to enter the charts with its message of optimism and hope. ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ was a UK Number 1 1994 and the song was later adopted by the UK Labour Party as their theme for the 1997 UK General Election. D:Ream also had chart success with Top 5 track ‘U R the Best Thing’ and Top 10 single ‘Shoot Me with Your Love’.
D:Ream’s core members were Peter Cunnah (vocalist, songwriter), Al Mackenzie and Cian McCarthy. Other touring performers included physicist Brian Cox, who played keyboards with the band while studying for his physics PhD.
Emma Kamen, SVP business development Blue Raincoat Music Publishing said “When dance music and artists who had grown up in the clubs began to infiltrate the charts it was an exciting time and D:Ream were a huge part of this. ‘Things Can Only Get Better’ is a song people will always want to hear – joyous and catchy in equal measure. All of us here are proud to have Peter’s catalogue as part of the Blue Raincoat family”
