#BeBoldForChange – Celebrating International Women’s Day
Date:
March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women around the world. The official IWD organization is calling upon everyone to take bold, groundbreaking action, this year, to drive the greatest change for women. We’ve rounded up ten Reservoir’s cuts with empowering and motivational lyrics which embody this year’s theme, #BeBoldForChange, to inspire and celebrate women worldwide. Check them out below:
1. Daya “Sit Still Look Pretty”
Daya’s hit cool-girl anthem, written by Reservoir writer Mike Campbell, blasts gender stereotypes and champions women thinking for themselves, and accomplishing whatever they set out to do.
2. Jess Glynne “Hold My Hand”
“Hold My Hand” is a pure pop hit whose lyrics exemplify the importance of knowing what you want. The track, written with Ina Wroldsen, was also used in the trailer for the film Bridget Jones’s Baby, serving as an anthem for independent and powerful women everywhere.
3. Demi Lovato “Lionheart”
Demi’s pop power ballad, from 2015’s Grammy nominated Confident, is all about unity and empowerment. “We all have that fire inside of us,” Lovato said of the track, co-written by Ina Wroldsen, “it represents the strength and fearlessness that’s inside of ourselves.”
4. Jessie J “Stand Up”
“Stand Up” is soulful pop that advocates positivity and self-love. Jessie even tattooed the title of the cut, co-written and produced by Karl “K-Gee” Gordon, on her wrist, telling The Sun, “Every lyric in this song is what I love my life by.”
5. Christina Aguilera “Fighter”
This throwback Aguilera classic, co-written and produced by Scott Storch is jam-packed with inspirational and empowering lyrics.
6. Meghan Trainor “Better”
Trainor’s 2016 emotional pop ballad, co-written by Steven Franks is a discovery of self-worth. The song’s message is applicable in multiple scenarios; the songstress initially wrote it asserting herself to an ex, exclaiming, “you deserve to be alone” and “I deserve better”, while the music video flips the switch to take on the struggles of alcoholism and family ties.
7. Lucy Rose “Till The End”
Lucy, known for her passion for activism and gender equality, filmed the empowering music video for “Till The End” with the Boiler Room ladies football club, a grassroots women’s football team which focuses on empowering women through sports. She explained in an email newsletter to her fans, “the women’s England team have been hugely inspiring not just to me but for all those young girls out there who love playing football and get told that it makes you boisterous and unfeminine. It certainly doesn’t make you either of those things and since making my music video I’ve joined a girls’ football team and feel normal for wanting to play football.”
8. Bebe Rexha “Bad Bitch”
Bebe Rexha’s “Bad Bitch”, off her recent release, All Your Fault Part I, is the epitome of being bold. Idolator proclaims the song, co-written with Reservoir’s Lauren Christy “doubles as a statement of intent.” #HBIC
9. Jessica Sanchez “Stronger Together”
The American Idol alum recorded this upbeat and inspiring pop track, written with Reservoir writer Bruce Roberts, as a unity anthem for the DNC, echoing Hilary Clinton’s famous campaign slogan.
10. Molly Moore “Free Spirit”
Molly Moore’s cerebral pop track, produced by Reservoir/Reverb Music’s Craigie Dodds, questions the trappings of modern life. Moore’s defiant warrior cry is an anthem for non-conformists everywhere.
