7 Lucky Tunes for a Fortuitous St. Patrick’s Day
Date:
You don’t need to be from Ireland to channel the luck of the Irish on St. Patrick’s Day. Whether you’re looking for romance or a winning poker hand, orchestrate your own good fortune with these seven lucky tunes:
1. “Lady Luck” – Molly Hatchet
Heritage rockers Molly Hatchet sing about good luck charm girlfriends, in “Lady Luck” from their 1981 album Take No Prisoners. Black cats and broken mirrors have nothing on the lucky gal who makes you feel like a winner every time you’re with her.
2. Lucky 7 – Statik Selektah
We couldn’t pick just one cut from Reservoir producer and beat maker extraordinaire Statik Selektah’s most recent solo record, Lucky 7. As the title suggests, Statik’s entire seventh studio album is a fortuitous one featuring titles like “Beautiful Life” and “Scratch Off”.
3. “Hummingbird” – Leon Russell
Hummingbirds are considered a sign of good luck, a thought not lost on blues rock musician Leon Russell. In his song “Hummingbird” he serenades the winged wonder and begs her not to fly away, hoping his luck will stay as long as she is near. Catch the singer in action at SXSW this week—if you’re lucky, you just might hear “Hummingbird” live!
4. “Who Us?” – Le Galaxie
Who better to channel some prosperity than Reservoir’s favorite Irish lads, Le Galaxie? The electronic dance musicians ask “Who Us?” in their energetic banger, and we delightfully answer, “yeah, you!”
5. “How Can One Man Be So Lucky” – The Dells
‘60s R&B soul group The Dells lent their smooth vocals to Philadelphia writer/producer Allan Felder’s “How Can One Man Be So Lucky”, in which they ponder how one man nabbed his dream girl.
6. “Six” – Yannick Bovy
Belgian jazz pop singer Yannick Bovy croons over his serendipitous change of fortune since meeting his current flame in “Six”. With a roll of the dice and a winning ticket in hand, Bovy is placing his bets on her.
7. “Lucky” – Hafdís Huld
In Icelandic singer Hafdís Huld’s sweet single “Lucky”, she tells the tale of a very fortunate four-leaf clover tattoo bearing boy named Jimmy. Born under a lucky star, Jimmy never loses and Huld hopes his luck will rub off on her just by keeping him close.
