UPDATED: RESERVOIR’S FAITH NEWMAN GUESTS ON WNYU’S “NASTY NAS SPECIAL”
Date:
Music industry veteran and Reservoir Senior Vice President of Creative and Business Development Faith Newman visited her Alma Mater, NYU, last week to speak on the late night WNYU radio show, The Halftime Show with DJ Eclipse. Eclipse hosted what he dubbed the “Nasty Nas Special” to discuss all things related to the NYC-native MC, including Faith’s pivotal role in his career as the executive who orchestrated his first record deal at then-label Columbia Records.
The interview is bursting with anecdotes from Nas’s early career, including everything from the vibe in the room where he signed his first contract, his “genius’ writing skills and reputation for tardiness, the rush to get debut album Illmatic into stores, demo tapes, video shoots–and sometimes literal shootings.
The ever-humble Faith comments, “I’m just happy to be a part of it.” Reservoir couldn’t be more proud to have such a seasoned and talented executive as Faith Newman on its team.
*Updated 7/22/12: Nas covers the hip-hop-dedicated fifty-first issue of Wax Poetics magazine, released in June. Nas credits Faith with bringing him to Columbia Records and cites her passion for hip-hop music as part of what made the deal happen.
