Date:
Reservoir Media, Inc. (NASDAQ: RSVR) (“Reservoir” or the “Company”), an award-winning independent music company, announced new publishing deals for the catalogs and future works of Indian rappers MC Altaf (Altaf Shaikh) and D’Evil (Dhaval Parab), and producer Stunnah Beatz (Rajdeep Singha). The deals stem from Reservoir’s 2020 joint venture with Indian megastar DIVINE’s company, Gully Gang, which focused on signing and developing new songwriting talent in India.
Rappers MC Altaf and D’Evil and producer Stunnah Beatz are three of India’s most promising rising rap stars, with more than half a billion streams combined. Notably, all three have been longtime collaborators of Indian rap superstar DIVINE. Altaf and D’Evil have featured across DIVINE’s releases over his career, including key tracks like “Mirchi,” “Disco Rap,” and “Vibe Hai.” Stunnah Beatz also worked with DIVINE on his recently released album Gunehgar, co-writing and co-producing “Bhookh” and “Street Lori.”
With massive collaborations in their catalogs, the three creators also continue to grow their solo careers. This year, D’Evil released several solo singles working with producer Karan Kanchan, including “Rani,” “Aao Balam” with Shizty and VASTAVIK, and most recently “Jinklo” with Just Neel Things. MC Altaf has also released several singles this year, from the solo work “Bansi” to collaborations with Stunnah Beatz, including “Big Moves” and “Samjhe Na.” Additionally, Stunnah Beatz has collaborated on many singles, with his latest drop “Guestlist” with Sammohit released in October.
Spek, Reservoir’s Executive Vice President of International and Emerging Markets, said, “I am really happy to be continuing our partnership with Gully Gang to bring MC Altaf, D’Evil, and Stunnah Beatz into the Reservoir family. These three are at the heart of some of India’s biggest rap music today, and it is an honor to be working with them and Gully Gang to export their art to global audiences.”
Reservoir Founder and Chief Executive Officer Golnar Khosrowshahi commented, “We would like to extend a big welcome to MC Altaf, D’Evil, and Stunnah Beatz.” She added, “We’re proud to be ushering in these deals, which demonstrate Reservoir’s steadfast commitment to our ongoing emerging markets strategy. As we invest in these local acts and share them with global audiences, we are well-positioned to not only tap into their potential growth, but also help facilitate the flow of culture from East to West.”
Chaitanya Kataria, Gully Gang Chief Executive Officer, added, “MC Altaf, D’Evil and Stunnah are really talented artists and songwriters whom we’ve been working closely with over the last few years. I’m excited that they’ll gain access to new global opportunities with support from Spek and Reservoir. I look forward to our partnership helping all three achieve their potential while growing their fanbases through more amazing music.”
