DRAKE RE-RELEASES 2009 'SO FAR GONE' MIXTAPE, FEATURING 3 RESERVOIR CUTS

2/15/2019

In commemoration of So Far Gone’s 10th anniversary, Drake re-released his infamous third mixtape onto streaming platforms for the first time today, via Young Money/Cash Money Records. Reservoir cuts contributed to 3 tracks on the 2009 mixtape.

“Ignant Shit,” featuring Lil Wayne and produced by Reservoir’s Just Blaze, and “A Night Off,” featuring Lloyd, both feature samples of 1983’s “Between the Sheets” by The Isley Brothers. Billboard emphasizes how “Ignant Shit” “showcases Drake's ability to rap with absolute ferocity alongside Wayne, who was then at the top of his game.” Billboard also notes that on track “A Night Off" Drake and Lloyd “harmonize the chorus and get off slow jam-like verses with ease. It’s a textbook apologetic ode to women, which likely arose often in Drake’s life at that time.” Meanwhile, “Bria’s Interlude,” featuring Omarion, samples 1975 Earth, Wind & Fire cut “New World Symphony” co-written by Verdine White. Billboard calls the track a “dark R&B feature” that “holds strong replay value -- especially if the mood is right.”
