5 REASONS DAYA'S 'SIT STILL LOOK PRETTY' IS THE PERFECT COOL GIRL ANTHEM

7/20/2016

Daya’s “Sit Still Look Pretty” has all the makings of a bonafide pop hit: catchy lyrics, bouncy beats, a melody you can whistle. Not to mention that the seventeen-year-old singer has everyone from InStyle to Teen Vogue insisting you get know her and her girl-power message. We’re equally obsessed. Here are five reasons why Daya’s “Sit Still Look Pretty” is the perfect cool girl anthem:

1. It encourages girls to get down-and-dirty for their dreams.

[This song] reminds young women that we can and should fight for our own dreams and ambitions, even if it doesn't always look pretty,” Daya said in a recent interview with Billboard magazine.

2. It fits right in on Capitol Hill.

Earlier this year, Daya took her then-new single to the White House for the Easter Rock’n’Egg Roll Stage:

Serenading Barack and Michelle Obama, NBD.

3. It inspires other girls to speak out with their own interpretations and covers. Check out a few of our faves:

4. It gets the boys involved, too.

Daya collaborator Mike Campbell described getting caught up in the girl-power spirit, saying, “'Sit Still, Look Pretty' relates to Daya’s experience and her message that girls and women are capable of whatever they put their minds to and that they don’t have to stick to what someone else expects of them. Guy or girl, I think we all can relate to feeling ambitious and like we don’t want anyone to dictate what we can and can't accomplish. On a personal note, I have a lot of strong women in my life and I consider myself a feminist, so that message resonates with me in that way as well."

5. It’s smoking up the charts as we speak.

“Sit Still Look Pretty" has gained momentum on Pop Radio, entering the Top 20 this week. It also touts over 58 million Spotify streams to date, plus inclusions on Billboard’s Hot 100, Hot Digital, Mainstream Top 40, and Pop Digital Songs charts. It’s also holding down a spot on Shazam’s US Top 100 Charts, with nearly half a million people having discovered the song through the app to date.

Stay fierce, Daya!
