MARIAH CAREY TEASES NEW ALBUM WITH RESERVOIR SAMPLE
Date:
Just weeks after posting a special promotional video to announce her forthcoming new album entitled Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, Mariah Carey has given fans a preview of the full release with an exclusive iTunes Radio stream, available today.
Poignantly based on a self-portrait the superstar made at just three years old, the title Me. I Am Mariah… contrasts Mariah’s past life of innocent childhood, captured in said portrait, with her characterization in the media as an “elusive chanteuse” today.
Among the album’s “peaks and valleys that have made [Mariah] who [she is] today” is the song “Meteorite.” The mid-tempo, disco-inflected track contains a sample of the Reservoir catalog song “Going Up In Smoke,” composed by Norman Harris and Alan Felder and originally performed by Motown artist Eddie Kendricks.
Pre-order Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, expected for release May 27 on iTunes and Amazon. Listen to Eddie Kendricks’ original performance of “Going Up In Smoke,” below:
