CYNDI LAUPER COVERS ‘MISTY BLUE’ ON NEW ALBUM ‘DETOUR’
Date:
Singer-songwriter and pop music icon Cyndi Lauper releases Detour, her 11th studio album, via Warner Music Group’s Sire Records imprint today. Lauper sings the Reservoir cut “Misty Blue”, originally popularized by Dorothy Moore, on the country music cover album.
A lauded departure from her pop-punk persona, Detour is earning high praise for its masterful blend of country classics with Lauper’s unique colorful arrangements. “Misty Blue”, in particular, has critics taking note; Idolater called the rendition “absolutely perfect”, while Ppcorn says Lauper is “completely captivating” on the “goosebumps on the back of your neck track”.
Country music leader CMT also named “Misty Blue” as one of the album’s highlights, noting that the original Bob Montgomery composition already showed the connection between country music and R&B. “That’s why I did it”, notes Lauper. “R&B and country, at a certain time period, walked hand in hand.”
