COMPLEX NAMES FAITH NEWMAN ONE OF HIP-HOP’S 25 BEST A&R EXECS
Date:
Reservoir’s own SVP of Creative and Business Development, Faith Newman, has long been known for her impressive resume in the world of hip-hop A&R. Now, she is immortalized in hip-hop culture as one of Complex magazine’s 25 Best A&Rs in Hip-Hop History.
The nod, which came as a surprise to Newman, places the long-time hip-hop officianado alongside other industry heavyweights like Irv Gotti, L.A. Reid, Jimmy Iovine, Diddy, the late Chris Lighty, and others, several of whom Newman has worked with and befriended over the years. It should be noted that Faith is one of just three women honored (the others are Sylvia Robinson, who signed the first commercially successful hip-hop group, The Sugar Hill Gang, before working with Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and Monica Lynch, honored alongside Tom Silverman for the duo’s work with Queen Latifah, Naughty By Nature, and others).
Faith’s profile takes us through her enviable track record, starting with a gig at Def Jam before heading to Columbia Records where she signed the rapper Nas. Eventually, Faith found her way to Reservoir, where her A&R expertise is put to work signing acts like hip-hop powerhouse 2 Chainz.
