#BalanceForBetter International Women’s Day 2019

Held internationally on March 8, International Women’s Day celebrates women’s accomplishments across social, economic, and cultural platforms to aid as a call to action for accelerating gender parity. 2019’s theme, #BalanceForBetter, aims to bring awareness and advances in building a gender-balanced world. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we’re highlighting a few of the outstanding women on our roster who are paving the way towards a more balanced world.
Last year, songwriter Ali Tamposi was named to the Advisory Board for Spotify & SoundGirls’ EQL Directory, whose mission is to “amplify the careers and achievements of women working behind-the-scenes in audio and production.” She was additionally honored by Spotify as their Secret Genius Songwriter of the Year, following an induction as one of Spotify’s 3 female Secret Genius Ambassadors of 2019. Moreover, Ali’s co-write “Thru Your Phone,” contributed to Cardi B’s Grammy-winning album Invasion of Privacy, which took home Best Rap Album at this year’s ceremony, earning Cardi B the title of first solo female rapper to earn the accolade.
Writer-producer Lauren Christy is one of only seven women in to ever be nominated for Producer of the Year (Non-Classical) at the Grammy Awards. Throughout Christy’s career, she has worked with strong female artists to write and produced anthems including the 5x Platinum Bebe Rexha and G-Eazy single “Me Myself & I,” Grammy Winning Best New Artist Dua Lipa’s “Blow Your Mind (Mwah)” to more recently hits like “Last Hurrah” for Bebe Rexha and four tracks for Avril Lavigne’s latest album Head Above Water. Christy previously teamed up with Lavigne on her iconic debut album Let Go, which earned her the aforementioned Producer of the Year Grammy nomination for “I’m With You”, plus a nomination for Song of the Year for “Complicated.”
In addition to being an in-demand writer-producer, whose credits include collaborations with Beyoncé and Britney Spears, Carla Marie Williams’ is the CEO & founder of female empowerment movement, Girls I Rate. Founded in 2016, the movement “pushes for change and creates opportunities for young women in the music and entertainment industry.” In celebration of Women’s History Month, Carla’s is holding the ‘All My Girls’ Tour, a songwriting master class meant to empower and motivate young women interested in the music business. The tour will see Carla traveling throughout the UK in March for the classes.
Singer-songwriter Lucy Rose frequently uses her music to support and advocate for marginalized groups. Lucy’s video for “Till the End,” dissolves the gender gap in sports, taking on a soccer tournament; the video for “The Strangest Of Ways” showed a female fan who faces an illness that her strength was limitless; her video for “Nebraska” highlights freedom of expression and identity; and single “Floral Dresses” featuring The Staves notes the importance of staying true to oneself. In addition to her music, Lucy has been a staunch advocate for female rights in the music industry. In regards to the gender imbalance for performance and festival bookings, Lucy noted during an interview with The Line Of Best Fit, “I think a lot of the time people are scared to talk about it, especially if you are a woman in music. You’ve got to make people aware and not pigeonhole women as making the same kind of music…but I think it’s getting better.” Her upcoming new album No Words Left, due out March 22nd, featuring singles “Conversation” & “Solo(w),” is sure to continue Rose’s underlying message of advocacy shown all throughout her works.
