Lauren Christy

Growing up in London, England, and attending Bush Davies School of the Arts from the ages of eleven to seventeen, Lauren Christy trained to be a ballet dancer and choreographer. As the years passed by, she found herself intrigued by the piano in every dance studio, attracted by the motion of sound, more so than the movement to sound.

By the age of nineteen, inspired by her favorite artists Kate Bush, Blondie, Prince and David Bowie, Lauren had become a solo recording artist and was signed by Allen Jacobs to EMI Publishing, London.

At the age of twenty-two, John Carter from Atlantic Records in Los Angeles signed Lauren without actually having met her after hearing a song she had written called 'My Jeans I Want Them Back'. John Carter would later introduce Lauren to Tom Vickers and Ed Eckstine at Mercury Records who, together, signed her to a record deal in 1991 and brought her out to live in Los Angeles to record her eponymous debut album.

By 1994 Lauren had achieved 3 Adult Contemporary radio hits and had received the American Music Awards nomination for Best New Artist. Her international hit The Color of the Night (from The Color Of Night, starring Bruce Willis) also garnered her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Song in an Original Motion Picture.

Fast forward five years to 1999, Lauren, a new mother, reimagined her career as co-creator of The Matrix. Alongside creative partners Graham Edwards and Scott Spock, she wrote and produced Avril Lavigne’s debut album 'LET GO', a worldwide phenomenon which spawned three international number one hits – Complicated, Sk8er Boi and I’m With You – while selling 17 million copies. 'Complicated' led to The Matrix trio winning the Ivor Novello Award for International Hit of the Year, while the 'LET GO' record brought them seven Grammy nominations - Song of the Year in 2003 for ‘Complicated' and again in 2004 for I’m With You along with Producer of the Year. Lauren is also a two-time Juno Award winner and a BMI Songwriter of the Year Award recipient.

The Matrix has sold over thirty million records and has worked with the such great artists as Avril Lavigne (Complicated, Sk8er Boi, I’m With You), Jason Mraz (The Remedy), Shakira (Don’t Bother), Liz Phair (Why Can’t I?), Korn (Coming Undone, Twisted Transister), David Bowie (New Killer Star), Christina Aguilera (This Year), Rickey Martin (This Is Good), Britney Spears (Shadow), Hillary Duff (So Yesterday), Ferras (Hollywood’s Not America), Busted (Three AM), Tokyo Hotel (Human Connect to Human), Rihanna (Cheers), to mention just a few.

Her recent solo work includes but is not limited to Enrique Iglesias’s Tonight I’m Loving You, G-Eazy x Bebe Rexha’s Me Myself And I, Jordan Smith’s Stand In The Light, Andra Day’s The Light That Never Fails, Iggy Azalea’s Team, Chris Brown Time To Love; Shy Carter’s Bring It Back, Dua Lipa’s Blow Your Mind (Mwah!) and Busted's On What You're On.

Lauren is proud to be one of only six women to have ever been nominated for Producer Of The Year at the Grammy Awards.
