8 Acts Whose Big Break We Can’t Wait For
Date:
With new artists popping up almost daily, the quest for the next big thing can be downright overwhelming. That said, we can’t help but get caught up in the careers of these standout growing acts. Who do you think will be the first to pop?
1. RILAN
This self-proclaimed glam rock-aholic released his debut single, “Chemical”, this July, and the reaction has been explosive. A blend of eighties pop and millennial EDM, “Chemical” is just a taste of what we hope to see much more of from Rilan.
2. M.O
Not to be confused with MØ, this female trio hailing from the U.K. offer the perfect blend of ‘90s dance pop, smooth R&B, and on-trend style sensibility. We love “Dance On My Own” both for its infectious groove and its girl-powerful message.
3. MILLERS DAUGHTER
Hailing from across the pond, the twin sisters in Millers Daughter draw their inspiration from classic rock’s Fleetwood Mac and country-pop’s Dixie Chicks. The combo is certainly working for the pair, whose sweet, harmonic songs manage to be both breathtakingly beautiful and steadfastly strong.
4. EMILY WEST
Based on the dreamy, poignant single “Wonderful Things”, we know Emily West has more good things in store. Technically, Emily’s already enjoyed success in the world of country music, having recorded a duet with Keith Urban and charted on Billboard’s Hot Country songs. She also appeared as a makeover candidate in Celebrity Apprentice and even competed on Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?. Still, we could stand to see more of the singer, and are hoping she puts more “Wonderful Things” out in the world soon.
5. THE VILLAINS
Their name might be criminal, but if The Villains are anything like their sweet lyrics, these guys are nothing but nice. On the verge of releasing their third album, The Villains had AC radio traction with their single “The First.” We’d be happy to hear more.
6. LOTTE MULLAN
Lotte Mullan is one of the hardest working indie chicks out there. Even without a best-seller, the British babe has already enjoyed premieres on BBC Radio, scored a deal with Elton John’s production company, and scored an award-winning short film. Our money’s on Mullan for the big break.
7. NADIA GATTAS
Signed to Denmark’s Lifted House (home to Ida Corr, Camille Jones, and more), Nadia Gattas’ sweet, full vocals shine in her new single, “Someone Like You.” While we try our best to sing along to the Danish cuts, we’re looking forward to more English-language tunes from this singer.
8. MARLON ROUDETTE
Marlon Roudette had the #1 dance single in Germany this Summer, and it’s easy to see why. In addition to some truly brilliant writing by Jamie Hartman, “When The Beat Drops Out” showcases Marlon’s warm, smooth vocals—the audio equivalent of in-person charisma. We can’t wait for more Marlon to land in the U.S.
