RESERVOIR WRITER TAUHEED “2 CHAINZ” EPPS NAMED SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR AT THE ASCAP RHYTHM & SOUL MUSIC AWARDS
NEW YORK, NY, June 28, 2013—Reservoir writer Tauheed “2 Chainz” Epps was named Songwriter of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers at the organization’s 26th annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. 2 Chainz accepted the prize in a ceremony held in Los Angeles last night, where the rapper was recognized for his numerous songwriting achievements, including his #1 debut album Based On A T.R.U. Story, three Grammy Award nominations, and Gold and Platinum singles performed with artists Juicy J, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Drake.
Reservoir signed 2 Chainz in August 2012, in a deal lead by SVP of Creative & Business Development, Faith Newman. In a press release announcing the signing, Newman spoke of 2 Chainz’ artistic potential.
“I see 2 Chainz as a career artist,” she stated then. “He has already developed into a cultural tastemaker. He can easily expand into other ventures like acting or product endorsement…He’s also a great live performer who knows how to work a crowd.”
In the months that followed, 2 Chainz would not only release B.O.A.T.S., now certified Gold, to a #1 debut on Billboard’s 200 albums chart, but go on to earn RIAA certifications for singles “No Lie” (Platinum), “Birthday Song”, and “I’m Different” (Gold). He would lend unforgettable verses to hits like the Grammy-nominated track “Mercy” with Kanye West, Big Sean, and Pusha T; the ubiquitous “Beez In the Trap” with Nicki Minaj; and the Mike Will-produced “Bandz A Make Her Dance” with Juicy J and Lil Wayne. 2 Chainz’ guest-starring roles on popular television shows Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and CBS’ 2 Broke Girls, appearance as the face of Adidas’ adiColor advertising campaign, and headlining tour with sold-out dates across the U.S. and Europe cemented his success.
“2 Chainz’ identity is unmistakable,” Newman asserts today. “He doesn’t rhyme like anybody else, he doesn’t convey ideas like anybody else, and you would never mistake his voice for anybody else’s. He has a writing style and delivery all his own. In his own words, ‘he’s different.’
“It’s so gratifying to see 2 Chainz honored with the Songwriter of the Year award. The entire Reservoir team is extremely proud to have him on our roster.”
Next for 2 Chainz is the release of a follow-up album to B.O.A.T.S. entitled B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time, whose September 10 release is already building anticipation. In the interim, his single “We Own It”, recorded with rapper Wiz Khalifa for the sixth and most recent film in the Fast & Furious franchise, continues to fare well on charts in the States and across Europe.
2 Chainz currently shares the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Songwriter of the Year title with producer Noah “40” Shebib.
