UPDATED: RIHANNA USES GINUWINE'S "PONY" ON NEW ALBUM 'UNAPOLOGETIC'
Pop music's original Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna, released her seventh album in seven years this week, appropriately entitled Unapologetic. Amid the album's A-list guest artists and chart-topping songwriters is an instantly recognizable interpolation of the hook from the Black Fountain R&B single, "Pony," written in part by Stephen "Static Major" Garrett and originally performed by Ginuwine. Rihanna expertly revives "Pony" in "Jump," Unapologetic's smoky dubstep-and-B track. Even sixteen years after its original release, the hook of "Pony" remains as anthemic and infectious as ever.
In a track-by-track review of Unapologetic, Billboard notes that 2012 has a "renaissance" year for "Pony," with a key feature in the summer film, Magic Mike, and now a dubstep-makeover from Rihanna. MTV went so far as to say that, with help from "Pony," "Jump" is Unapologetic's best track.
